Job Summary and Qualifications As a Nurse Extern, you’ll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience as you explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You’ll help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients’ lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program. Your responsibilities will include: - Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene - Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and grow in your competency - Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated - Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery - Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment - Championing your growth and enhancing patient care by engaging in learning opportunities, sharing ideas to improve care, and partnering with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan What qualifications you will need: - Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date - Must be actively attending Registered Nursing school Live Oak Mental Health and Wellness Center, is a part of Trident Health. We give inpatient stabilization treatment to patients who seek treatment for acute psychiatric symptoms which cannot be addressed on an outpatient basis. Common disorders of patients treated in this program include but are not limited to: major depressive disorder, schizoaffective disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, adjustment disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, impulse control disorder and a variety of co-morbid personality disorders. Our patient population is both adult and adolescent. We offer 24 hour availability of a full range of services. We have the capability to institute rapid lifesaving interventions. Our physician availability is 24 hours a day to institute needed modification to the treatment plan. Psychiatrist involved in the direction and management of the treatment program. Round the clock skilled nursing care implementing the treatment plan and providing monitoring and assessment of the patient's condition and response to treatment.
